Aidan Anderson, a 19-year-old entrepreneur from Prince Albert, was chosen by the Sasakamoose family to design a tribute clothing line honouring the late Fred Sasakamoose, an NHL trailblazer and Indigenous leader who passed away from COVID-19 complications in 2020.
With unauthorized apparel appearing from the U.S., Fred’s son Neil Sasakamoose turned to IN2R – I Need 2 Ride, Aidan’s mission-driven mental health streetwear brand, to preserve the family’s legacy with dignity and respect.
Limited edition shirts, hoodies, and hats will feature an exclusive, authorized logo designed by Aidan — a powerful symbol of Fred’s enduring impact on Canadian hockey and Indigenous youth.
“I heard people call Fred a legend, so I thought putting ‘legends live forever’ would be perfect,” said Anderson. “It’s a massive honour to be trusted with something so meaningful.”
Scott Anderson, Aidan’s father, added, “It’s hard to fathom how big of a deal this really is. The Sasakamoose family are truly inspiring people.”
Neil explained why the family chose IN2R: “Aidan uses his brand to end the stigma around depression and anxiety. That message deeply resonated with our family and reflected values my father held high.”
In a statement, Neil urged fans to wear the gear proudly: “It represents Fred’s story and allows his legacy to continue helping his people and province.”
Proceeds from the tribute apparel will support the Fred Sasakamoose Chief Thunderstick Sports Inc. — a nonprofit that runs the national First Nations hockey championship attracting over 30 Indigenous men’s and women’s teams each year in Saskatoon.
